In April 2012, a grant was provided by WG to complete the design of the scheme, procure the works and complete the construction within the financial year 2012/13.
In June 2012, WG confirmed that the traffic signal option should be progressed to detail design.
The proposal at Sycamore Cross is to provide a fully signalised junction to better manage the traffic manoeuvres and flows and to improve safety. In addition, dedicated off-road cycle lanes will provide safer routes for cyclists through the junction. The Council and Welsh Government have ignored the facts that suggest that similar junctions in the Vale have a poor safety record - and the conversion of the roundabout at Barons Court in Penarth to a crossroads with traffic lights has resulted in a significant increase in serious accidents. |
