Mobile Phone Signal to be improved?

posted 17 Jun 2013, 10:49 by Ian Perry
Vale MP Alun Cairns is suggesting that residents download the RootMetrics app to their smart phones or tablet PC to test the strength of the signal and automatically record it for the purpose of future signal improvement.

Mr Cairns told the Barry and District News: "The government is investing in a £150m mobile phone infrastructure project, to ensure that wherever you live, mobile phone signal should be possible even in isolated rural communities. Collecting data from real-time consumers and creating a mobile coverage map will provide a detailed picture of where infrastructure investment is needed to improve mobile coverage.

"We all pay the same to run our mobile phones, regardless of where we live, but mobile signal varies wildly from place to place, with several parts of the Vale from Dinas Powys to Colwinston suffering from little or no signal.

"The more data that is collected, the better the case that can be made to mobile operators to improve the signal for all."
